Title: Day to Day Substitute Teacher
FUNCTION: To supervise a classroom and follow the sub plans as left by the teacher.
NOTE: The responsibilities and duties listed below are illustrations of the various types of
work performed. The omission of specific statements of duties do not exclude them
for the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
Start and end time coincide with school building hours. This is a temporary
assignment, applicant hired will have the opportunity to remain on the BPS daily
substitute and update information as needed.
School Building Hours:
Elementary = 8:55am – 3:00pm
Memorial School = 7:55am – 2:20pm
High School = 7:30am – 2:00pm
KMA = 8:30am – 2:30pm
DUTIES:
- Substitute teachers assume the responsibility for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
- Maintain appropriate records including attendance.
- Fulfill necessary clerical work required to maintain student records for a teacher who is absent.
- Implement substitute lesson plans for absent teachers based on the lesson plans outlined by the full-time teacher or at times may be required to create lesson plans that meet the learning objective of the class.
- Review homework and classwork and be able to correct student errors and/or provide feedback.
- Maintain proper classroom management.
- Provide guidance to students where applicable.
- Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
- Oversee pupil behavior in class and surrounding areas and maintain normal classroom routines and discipline within the classroom.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with students, staff, and parents
- Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Good health - willing to submit to a medical examination.
- Current students who have completed their second year of college.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferred.
- Preferred Massachusetts DESE teacher license.
- Must be a person of professional and personal integrity.
- A high degree of patience and tact in dealing with the general public, parents, teachers, administrators, and prospective teachers, and other personnel.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
