TITLE: BELLINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS LANGUAGE AMBASSADOR
POSITION SUMMARY:
Language ambassadors serve as a bridge/broker for the school and families who speak other languages by providing valuable language and cultural support to assist families in participating in our school community. Language ambassadors are tier 1 interpreters who may assist in informal, spontaneous communications and sight translations to break down barriers and open opportunities for family involvement in our schools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete language ambassador training on DESE’s website (~90 minutes)
- Send certificate of completion to Brittany Wright, EL Director to file
- Check email for optional opportunities to participate in informal translation or interpretation
- Follow all applicable school rules
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a current member of the Bellingham Public Schools staff/faculty
SALARY: $33 per hour
REPORTS TO: EL Director
OUR MISSION:
The Bellingham Public School District’s enrollment is approximately 1,930 students and an organizational staff of 400 employees. The district is split into the following building grade levels: DiPietro Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3), Stall Brook Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3) Bellingham Memorial School (grades 4-7) and Bellingham High School (grades 8-12), and Keough Memorial Academy (grades 7-12) is our therapeutic day school for students with special needs.
