TITLE: Building Substitute (One Year Only)
LOCATION: Bellingham High Schools 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR
POSITION SUMMARY:
The building substitute position will be a one year only position for the 2024-2025 school year.
The building substitute will be directed to the open positions where coverage is needed as they arrive at the building each day.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Substitute teachers assume the responsibility for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
- Maintain appropriate records including attendance.
- Fulfill necessary clerical work required to maintain student records for a teacher who is absent.
- Implement substitute lesson plans for absent teachers based on the lesson plans outlined by the full-time teacher or at times may be required to create lesson plans that meet the learning objective of the class.
- Review homework and classwork and be able to correct student errors and/or provide feedback.
- Maintain proper classroom management.
- Provide guidance to students where applicable.
- Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
- Oversee pupil behavior in class and surrounding areas and maintain normal classroom routines and discipline within the classroom.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with students, staff, and parents.
- Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
- Foster a positive relationship with students and staff.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
SKILLS/ABILITY:
- Must be a person of professional and personal integrity.
- A high degree of patience and tact in dealing with the general public, parents, teachers, administrators, prospective teachers and other personnel.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferred.
- Massachusetts DESE teacher license, preferred.
SALARY: $110/day
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.
Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend, sit or stand frequently.
