TITLE: BEFORE/AFTER-SCHOOL EL CONTENT AND LANGUAGE ACCELERATION TEACHER - GR 4-5

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This program is designed to help accelerate content and language acquisition for English learner students grades 4-5 by offering an extended day program that connects to core curriculum (i.e. Wonders, etc.) and the background knowledge necessary to be more successful in understanding the concepts and language of various subject matter/themes.

 

Snacks are provided for student participants.

 

DATES OF PROGRAM: Winter Session - January 6 - March 7 (8 weeks)

                                2 days per week, choice of flexible days of the week - 1 hour of prep is

                                provided for every 2 hours of instruction

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Design fun and engaging lessons that are culturally and linguistically sustaining, honoring students assets, prior knowledge, and full linguistic repertoire
  2. Select appropriate text from a wide variety of genres (select read aloud that is not the exact anchor text from Wonders unit but previews similar concept/vocabulary/theme) to develop background knowledge for Wonders
  3. Select appropriate hands-on activities, incorporating arts, music, movement, science, and so on, to engage students  and encourage practice and demonstration of learning and use of target language
  4. Differentiate instruction for EL students of various proficiency levels
  5. Supervise students at arrival and dismissal
  6. Document learning experiences on template provided by the EL Director
  7. Share student experience summary/photos with families
  8. Gather feedback from families mid-cycle (around 4 weeks) in order to adjust practice as needed
  9. Follow all applicable school rules

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. MA Educator Licensure (Elementary) and SEI Endorsement and/or ESL Licensure (Elementary)

2. Current Member of Bellingham Public Schools faculty preferred

 

SALARY: $33 per hour

The Bellingham Public School District’s enrollment is approximately 1,930 students and an organizational staff of 400 employees.  The district is split into the following building grade levels: DiPietro Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3), Stall Brook Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3) Bellingham Memorial School (grades 4-7) and Bellingham High School (grades 8-12), and Keough Memorial Academy (grades 7-12) is our therapeutic day school for students with special needs.
