TITLE: Chemistry Teacher

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Chemistry teachers educate high school students to prepare for postsecondary education or the workforce. The main duties include planning, instructing lessons, assessing, and supporting student’s strengths and weaknesses. The teacher must comply with curriculum frameworks, adapt, and enforce classroom policies.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan and deliver engaging lessons with clear, measurable, relevant learning outcomes that reflect district learning expectations, align with MA curriculum frameworks, and convey a love of learning to students.
  2. Demonstrate caring and concern for all students by establishing a culture of high expectations for learning and behavior.
  3. Implement a variety of instructional strategies based on students’ diverse needs and integrate technology to increase learning.
  4. Assess student understanding of learning objectives with student self-assessments, frequent formative measures, and periodic summative measures.
  5. Collaborate with colleagues to analyze student work, draw conclusions, develop interventions and extensions, and implement new teaching strategies based on assessment data.
  6. Integrate social emotional learning and culturally responsive teaching into the classroom and foster a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning community.
  7. Partner with families to support students' academic, social, and behavioral progress.
  8. Make positive contributions to the larger school community.
  9. Implement Individual Education Programs and 504 Accommodation Plans, participate in team meetings, and collaborate with special education and support staff members.
  10. Fulfill professional responsibilities by communicating effectively, using good judgment, meeting deadlines, engaging in professional development, reflecting on performance and making positive changes to improve student learning, being receptive to feedback, and completing assigned duties.
  11. Assume other responsibilities assigned by the building principal in accordance with collective bargaining provisions
  12. Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  13. Maintain the classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  14. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and – in harmony with the goals – establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  15. Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
  16. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  17. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  18. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
  19. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluate their job performance.
  20. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  21. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  22. Other duties as assigned. 

SKILLS/ABILITY:

  1. Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.
  2. Experience working with diverse student populations preferred.
  3. Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Appropriate MA DESE Certification Required
  2. Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  3. At least one year of full-time teaching experience

 

SALARY: As per BTA Contract

 

CLASSIFICATION: BTA

 

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.

 

Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend, sit or stand frequently.

DiPietro Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3), Stall Brook Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3) Bellingham Memorial School (grades 4-7) and Bellingham High School (grades 8-12), and Keough Memorial Academy (grades 7-12) is our therapeutic day school for students with special needs.
