Title: Day to Day Paraeducator Substitute

FUNCTION: To work under the supervision of the classroom teacher to supervise and
maintain the learning environment as well as work directly with students and
assist as needed.
NOTE: The responsibilities and duties listed below are illustrations of the various types of
work performed. The omission of specific statements of duties do not exclude them
for the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
Start and end time coincide with school building hours. This is a temporary
assignment, applicant hired will have the opportunity to remain on the BPS daily
substitute and update information as needed.
Day to Day Assignment as Needed (Locations Vary)
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under supervision of a certified Special Education or Classroom Teacher, prepares for classroom activities.
- Works with small groups of students to reinforce concepts initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assists individual children in need of individualized education.
- Performs instructional duties as directed.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and individualized work developed by the teacher.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Performs related duties outside the classroom assigned by the Principal or designee.
- Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Good health – able to lead a classroom out of the building during a fire drill with no delay.
- Must have earned a high school diploma.
- Associates Degree or higher preferred.
- Must be a person of professional and personal integrity.
- A high degree of patience and tact in dealing with the general public, parents, teachers, administrators, prospective teacher and other personnel.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
