Title: Advisor – Math Club Advisor (BHS)
FUNCTION: To assume the responsibilities for organizing, guiding, directing and supervising
the Bellingham High School Math Club in its numerous competitions.
Directly responsible to the building principal.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct yearly sign-ups.
- Apply to the SMML (Southeastern Massachusetts Mathematics League) and the NEML (New England Mathematics League).
- Apply for copies of the High School Mathematics Examination held in the spring and the Mathematics Olympiad Examination conducted in the fall.
- Contact bus barn with schedule of yearly field trips.
- Contact local colleges for upcoming Math Day competitions such as Bridgewater State College and Lowell University.
- Hold weekly practice sessions to prepare for the next contest.
- Distribute old copies of examinations as a foundation for the new examinations so that students become quite familiar with the proper level of difficulty.
- Keep records of the results.
- Make necessary press releases throughout the season.
- Purchase annual plaques, trophies, medals, certificates and wards for qualified candidates.
- Present trophies, medals, certificates and awards on Class Day to qualified candidates.
- Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
EXPERIENCE:
- Preferably a member of the High School teaching staff.
- Experience in supervising extra-curricular activities.
- Knowledge of mathematics.
- Willingness to devote time and energy to exemplary.
- Ability to stimulate high honor students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Dedication to the service of youth.
- Demonstrated ability to relate favorably with students.
