TITLE: World Language Teacher - Spanish

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The World Language Department provides students with the language skills to communicate thoughtfully and meaningfully in the target language. Students utilize their language skills to engage in authentic learning experiences that connect them to the global community. Students are challenged to examine their world and develop an appreciation and respect for others’ beliefs and ideas.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teaches skills and knowledge in the Spanish language to secondary pupils utilizing the course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities. Modern world language teachers (Spanish) teach aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing.
  2. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with innovative instructional philosophy.
  3. Provides learning experiences that develop communication skills utilizing appropriate instructional technology.
  4. Provides individualized and small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  5. Develops students’ understanding and appreciation of the culture of countries where Spanish is spoken.
  6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  7. Evaluates each student's progress in comprehension, speaking, reading and writing the Spanish language in relationship to the level being taught.
  8. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  9. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  10. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  11. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the School Department, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities such as foreign language workshops.
  12. Be a positive member of the school community.
  13. Assumes other general related responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal
  14. Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Appropriate Massachusetts Teacher Licensure.
  2. Bachelor's Degree, Required. Master’s Degree, Preferred.
  3. Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and speak the Spanish language.
  4. MA DESE Certification: Foreign Language: Spanish 5-12
  5. Dual certified candidate (French and Spanish) Preferred

 

SALARY: BTA Contract

 

CLASSIFICATION: BTA

 

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.

 

Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend, sit or stand frequently.

 

REPORTS TO: School Principal

DiPietro Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3), Stall Brook Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3) Bellingham Memorial School (grades 4-7) and Bellingham High School (grades 8-12), and Keough Memorial Academy (grades 7-12) is our therapeutic day school for students with special needs.
